South Woking Help at Hand (also known as Help at Hand or H@H)

About us:

We aim to bridge the gaps in the existing services NOT to replace them. Almost all our clients are elderly but there are occasions when a younger client may need our help.

Help provided for our clients is free, but we do request donations to cover petrol costs. We generally do not transport a wheelchair,  but if the car is large enough and the volunteer driver is willing, this may be arranged.  When we are unable to fulfil a request, the Duty Officer may be able to suggest an alternative (e.g. the Bustler service).

  • Volunteer drivers who can take a client to appointments etc

  • Occasionally: a volunteer who can visit and help with non-driving tasks

  • And a duty officer who can take phone call from clients and organise the volunteers to fulil the request. This is a Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 12.00pm role. A mobile phone and full training will be provided.

Any offers of help - no matter how big /no matter how small are very, very welcome.

This is a very ad-hoc service which depends totally on the times and dates requested by the client. Some weeks there is very little to do and other weeks there is so much that most/all volunteers are used.

A set time and day regularly volunteered may produce very few requests of help but flexibility is the key word which often means that the volunteer is well used.  All volunteers will have a DBS check undertaken at our cost in order to protect both volunteer and the client.
